Embroidered Bed Covers coverlets in
handloom woven off white cotton fabric with colorful
hand embroidery come from the Kashmir valley in India.
The colors used for the embroideries are a combination
of bright and pastel shades on a light colored fabric.
These embroidered bed linen in soft shades and
magnificent floral embroidery are true objects of art
and speaks highly of the skills of the Kashmir crafts
people. Kashmiri artisans have embroidered the pretty
floral designs in exquisite detail. The craftsmen are
inspired by the beauties of nature that surround them
and turn to motifs such as ambia (mango) and boteh
(flowers) and the chinar leaves. Delicately shaded
pastels on white or pale grounds are embroidered in a
fine and detailed manner. Ari, or hook embroidery done
with an awl, employs motifs of flower designs finely
worked in concentric rings of chain stitch. A range of
colors is used for this art which decorates articles
such as cushion covers, bed covers and table cloths.
