Brahmin Community:
The Brahmin style known as 'Tantric Madhubani" was developed by Batohi Jha. A local priest known also as 'laal Baba' (the red old man) started Tantric painting by intervening his tantric and mythological knowledge in the traditional Madhubani style.

Batohi Jha:
Batohi Jha, 84, the Brahmin priest of the locality also known as Laal baba, started painting very late in his life. He initially used to explain to the urban and foreign guests of Madhubani the artwork of various female artists. This came in practice because the women who painted in Madhubani style very seldom knew the significance of the various symbols used in their own paintings. Acquiring all the knowledge about the art and then mixing it with his tantric wisdom, he created his own style.

Laal Baba is still serving as priest to a local temple of Madhubani. Living in a tattered mud hut with his son and daughter-in-law, he looks very satisfied with life.
