Armlet Silver
Handcrafted Upper Arm Jewelry from ShalinCraft. Armlet is an ornament that is usually worn around
the arm, especially the upper arm. In India,
armlets are popularly known as `Baju Bandh`.
In Rajasthan, armlet jewellery is an
essential part of the marriage jewellery, be it
the Rajputs or the Banjaras. There is a defined
pattern, derived from the convenience point of
view, which is normally followed when the hand
ornaments are worn - first the upper arm, then
the lower arm and the last to come, the hand
piece hinged ornament which is broader than the
bazuband. It closes with the help of a screw. For
the armlets there are other variations which are
distinctive to a particular community, e.g. the
Raika women, hailing from the community of camel
keepers of Chittorgarh area, use big bangles like
armlets. It is basically two ornament. For the
arm, the two distinctive ornaments are the
bazuband and the chud. While bazuband is
flexible, the chud is rigid. Both, or the arm. A
bazuband is an assembly of a number of vertical
units with loops on either side, usually strung
on a chord. Even though the women of upper strata
as well as lower strata wear it, the only
resemblance is in the basic concept. The Rajput
women wear bazuband of gold studded with precious
stones strung on gold or red coloured chord.
While the rural women wear silver bazuband
strung, usually, on a black chord.
